Harvie Pocza was born September 22, 1959 in Lethbridge, Alberta. The 3rd choice, 67th overall selection of the Washington Capitals in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft, Pocza is a graduate of the Alberta Amateur Hockey Association and the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
After stops with the Pas Blue Devils and the Pincher Creek Panthers Pocza joined the Western Canadian Junior Hockey League's Calgary Centennials for ten games during the 1976-77 season. In 1977-78 the Lethbridge, Alberta native joined the WCJHL's Billings Bighorns, a team with whom he spent two seasons with before making his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals the following season.
An offensively gifted player, Pocza strong play earned him a roster spot with the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears in 1979-80. Even though he spent the majority of the season with Hershey, Pocza also played in 13 games with the International Hockey League's Port Huron Flags while making his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals.
Pocza returned to Hershey in 1980-81 and spent the next three years with the Bears returning to the Capitals line-up only once in 1981-82 for two games before stepping away from the game following the season.
Throughout his career, Harvie Pocza played in three NHL games.
