Harold Phillipoff was born July 14, 1956 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. The 2nd choice, 10th overall selection of the Atlanta Flames in the 1976 NHL Entry Draft, Phillipoff is a graduate of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League's Bellingham Blazers before joining the Western Canadian Junior Hockey League in 1974-75.

The Kamsack, Saskatchewan native spent two years with the WCJHL's New Westminster Bruins competing in two Memorial Cups, while earning Memorial Cup All-Star Team honours in 1976. Prior to making his NHL debut with the Atlanta Flames in 1977-78, Phillipoff played one season in the American Hockey League with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs capturing the 1977 Calder Cup championship.

In 1977-78, Phillipoff made his NHL debut with Atlanta, finishing his rookie year with an impressive 17 goals and 36 assists for 53 points. Following a strong rookie campaign, Phillipoff returned to Atlanta in 1978-79 looking to improve on his freshman year. After a slow start to the season, Atlanta traded Phillipoff to the Chicago Black Hawks where he finished the year and returned the next year.

Unable to repeat or maintain his exploits from his rookie year, Phillipoff spent only one full season with the Black Hawks before becoming a member of the Central Hockey League's Dallas Black Hawks in 1980-81. After only one season in Dallas, Phillipoff joined the CHL's Oklahoma City Blazers in 1981-82, where he played in only 13 games before finishing the season and his playing career with the AHL's Fredericton Express.

Throughout his career, Harold Phillipoff played in 147 NHL games.
