Clayton Pachal was born April 21, 1956 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The 1st choice, 16th overall selection of the Boston Bruins in the 1976 NHL Entry Draft, Pachal is a graduate of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Estevan Bruins and of the Western Canadian Junior Hockey League's New Westminster Bruins.

A two-time Memorial Cup finalists with New Westminster in 1975 and 1976, Pachal spent four seasons with the Bruins and was a member of the Canada's 1975 silver medal World Junior Championship team before making his NHL debut with Boston the following year.

The Yorkton, Saskatchewan native spent the majority of the 1976-77 season with American Hockey League's Rochester Americans while suiting up for one game with the North American Hockey League's Binghamton Dusters and one game with the Bruins.

Pachal split his 1977-78 season with Rochester and Boston before he was traded to Colorado in October of 1978. During the 1978-79 season, Pachal played in a career high 24 games with the Rockies while spending the other half of the season with the AHL's Philadelphia Firebirds.

After only one season with the Rockies, Pachal signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Oilers before splitting the 1979-80 season with the Central Hockey League's Cincinnati Stingers and the International Hockey League's Grand Rapids Owls.

In 1980-81, Pachal joined the Unity Miners of the Saskatchewan Amateur Hockey Association-Intermediate and went on to spend the next two seasons with the Miners before suiting up for the Wilkie Outlaws in 1982-83 and finishing his career in 1983-84 with the Rosetown Red Wings.
