Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Lou Nistico
Centre Lou Nistico was a skilled offensive player but, at 5'7", was under-sized by NHL standards. He played briefly with the Colorado Rockies but was a more productive offensive force in the WHA.

The native of Thunder Bay, Ontario played three years with the London Knights of the OHA. After accumulating 95 points in 1972-73 he was chosen 105th overall by the Minnesota North Stars. Nistico opted to sign with the WHA's Toronto Toros and played 13 games for them in 1973-74 while spending the rest of his time with the AHL's Jacksonville Barons.

Nistico scored 22 points in 29 games for the Toros the next season while also skating with the NAHL's Mohawk Valley Comets. He earned a regular spot with the team in 1975-76 and kept this spot when the franchise relocated to Birmingham the next season.

On November 6, 1977 Nistico signed with the Colorado Rockies on a five-game trial. He played three games with the Rockies before he was sent down to the Phoenix Roadrunners of the CHL. After four games in the minors, Nistico decided to return to Ontario for the remainder of the season to play senior hockey with the Brantford Alexanders. He scored 35 points in 27 games and helped the club reach the Allan Cup final. The next year he played for the Welland Sunys team that toured Yugoslavia and Austria.

After retiring, Nistico coached intermediate hockey in the Hamilton area while working for Carling O'Keefe Brewery in Burlington. A short time later he relocated to Ottawa to take over the sales for the entire eastern region
