Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Frank Nigro
Centre Frank Nigro played parts of two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the early 80s. He put up decent numbers in the minors but spent most of his pro career in Italy. His strongest traits were an excellent shot and above average speed.

The native of Richmond Hill, Ontario played in the MTHL with the hometown Rams in 1976-77. From there he graduated to the London Knights of the OHA. After scoring 33 goals in 1978-79, Nigro was chosen 93rd overall by Toronto at the NHL Entry Draft. He scored 24 goals with the AHL's Cincinnati Tigers during his first year as a pro in 1981-82.

Nigro played 51 games for Toronto the next season but could only find the net six times. His strongest spell of play came on a line with Dan Daoust and John Anderson. He dressed for 17 games in 1983-84 but spent most of the year averaging a point per game for the AHL's St. Catharines Saints.

Nigro left North America in 1984-85 to play for Italy's HC Groden. He later competed for Merano, Varese and Bolzano. His finest year came in 1985-86 when he scored 132 points in 32 games in Merano. Nigro also suited up for Italy at the "B" Pool World Championships in 1989, 1990 and 1991 as well as the 1992 Albertville Olympics.
