Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Scott Metcalfe
Forward Scott Metcalfe came up through the ranks of the Metro Toronto Hockey League and played for the Toronto Young Nationals as a 15-year-old in 1982-83, scoring 22 goals and 65 points in 39 games.

In 1983-84 Metcalfe made the jump to major junior hockey playing with the Kingston Canadians of the OHL. In his rookie season he scored 25 goals and 74 points in 68 games. He followed that up with a 60-point effort the following season. In the summer of 1985 he was taken in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, 20th overall.

Metcalfe played out the final two years of his junior eligibility in Kingston and in Windsor with the Spitfires. He then turned pro in 1987-88, but was unable to crack the powerful Edmonton Oilers lineup. He was dispatched to the Nova Scotia Oilers but was called up for two games with Edmonton. Midway through the season the Oilers traded Metcalfe to the Buffalo Sabres with Edmonton's ninth-round choice in the 1989 Entry Draft, which turned out to be Donald Audette. In return, the Oilers received rugged defenseman Steve Dykstra. Metcalfe was commissioned to Buffalo's AHL affiliate in Rochester for the rest of the season, but was called up for one game with the Sabres where he picked up his first NHL point, an assist.

In 1988-89 he played in nine games with Buffalo, scoring a goal and an assist while producing 51 points in 60 games with Rochester. Metcalfe played another seven games in a Buffalo uniform the next season which was the last time he played in the NHL. In 19 games he recorded a goal and three points.

Metcalfe played one season in the German Elite League with the Berlin Polar Bears in 1992-93. The next year he returned to North America, signing with the Knoxville Cherokees of the ECHL. In 1994-95 he returned to the Rochester Americans where he played for five years. He was then offered a contract to play for the Hannover Scorpions in Germany, playing there in 1998-99 and 1999-00. His next international stop was England for the 2000-01 season where he played 46 games with the Sheffield Steelers.

Metcalfe returned to North America, signing a free agent contract with the Adirondack Icehawks of the United Hockey League in September. However, it was a short-lived union, with the club releasing him on October 23, 2001.
