Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bryan McSheffrey
As a teen growing up in Ottawa, Bryan McSheffrey starred with the Ottawa South Canadiens, and at the age of 16 made the jump to the OHA, playing one game with the Oshawa Generals before joining the Ottawa 67's for the 1968-69 campaign at the age of 17. He played three years in Ottawa, each year improving on his offensive output, and in his final year scored 52 goals and 96 points.

The big right winger was the second choice of the Vancouver Canucks, taken 19th overall in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft. As a 20-year-old rookie McSheffrey broke into the Canucks' lineup for 33 games, scoring four goals and eight points. The balance of his season was spent in Seattle with the Totems of the WHL. He returned for his second year with the Canucks, but in 54 games was able to score just nine times. The organization had anticipated a higher offensive output and was part of a big trade with the Buffalo Sabres on October 14, 1974 which saw Vancouver send McSheffrey and Jocelyn Guevremont to the Sabres for Gerry Meehan and Mike Robitaille. McSheffrey was unable to crack the Buffalo lineup, managing to dress for just three games. He played 47 games with the Hershey Bears of the AHL where he collected 12 goals and 20 points.

McSheffrey played another five years of professional hockey, all with minor-league teams, primarily in the NAHL. He finished his playing career with two seasons in Holland, where he was one of the top offensive stars. In 19780-79, he led the league with 32 goals and 64 points in just 18 games as a member of HYS-Intervam.
