Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Thomas McCarthy
Tom McCarthy was born in Hamilton, Ontario before the turn of the twentieth century. He established his career in the New York area, playing with the New York Irish-Americans of the AAHL in 1914-15, the Brooklyn Crescents first of the AAHL in 1915-16, then of the USAHA in 1916-17 and then joined the New York Wanderers of the USAHA in 1917-18. McCarthy returned to his hometown in 1918-19, playing senior hockey with the Hamilton Tigers. He was signed as a free agent by the Quebec Bulldogs of the fledgling NHL in February 1920, and finished the season with the team, scoring 12 goals and 18 points in the 12 games he played. The 1919-20 season proved to be the only season in which the Bulldogs played, as after a dismal 4/20/0 record, the franchise shifted to Hamilton in 1920-21. McCarthy played with the Tigers during the 1920-21 campaign, recording 10 goals and an assist in 22 contests. But that was it for NHL employment for McCarthy. He moved west and played with the Saskatoon Sheiks of the Western Canadian Hockey League in 1921-22 and finished his playing career with the Seattle Metropolitans of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association in 1922-23.
