Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Hector Marini
Right-winger Hector Marini was a hard-working two-way player during his five NHL seasons in the 1970s and '80s. He was also a feisty competitor with a decent scoring touch in junior and the minor leagues.

The native of Timmins, Ontario was selected 50th overall by the New York Islanders at the 1977 Amateur Draft after scoring 76 goals in three seasons with the OHA's Sudbury Wolves. Marini made the transition to the pros look easy by scoring 33 times for the Muskegon Mohawks of the IHL in 1977-78. Apart from a one game stint with the Isles in 1978-79, the young sparkplug spent the next two seasons apprenticing in the CHL.

After scoring 52 points in 54 games for the CHL's Indianapolis Checkers in 1980-81, Marini was recalled by New York. He responded to the challenge by notching eleven points in 14 regular season games then scoring three times while helping the Islanders win their second consecutive Stanley Cup. He played only 30 games in 1981-82 before being shipped to the New Jersey Devils on the eve of the next season.

Marini was a leader and solid offensive performer for the club during its first year in the Meadowlands. He registered 45 points, played aggressively all over the ice, and was picked as the team's representative in the 1983 All-Star Game. His good fortune did not last as the Devils went with other players and limited Marini's ice time the next year. He toiled in the minors until suffering a career-ending eye injury on December 5, 1985 while playing for the IHL's Fort Wayne Komets.
