Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Garth MacGuigan
Center Garth MacGuigan played parts of two seasons with the New York Islanders in the 70s and 80s. Although his NHL impact was minimal, he scored more than his share of goals in junior and the minor leagues.

Born in Charlottetown, PEI, MacGuigan was selected 50th overall by the Islanders in 1976 after scoring 77 goals in two seasons for the Montreal Junior Canadiens and being named to the QMJHL west division second all-star team. He began his pro career in style by scoring 54 goals and playing a gritty style for the Muskegon Mohawks and winning the Garry F. Longman Memorial Trophy as the top rookie in the IHL.

Through the late 70s and early 80s, MacGuigan was a consistent scorer in the CHL with the Fort Worth Texans and Indianapolis Checkers. He topped the 20-goal mark seven times, made two brief appearances in the NHL and was a member of three CHL championship teams before retiring in 1985.
