Right-winger Rene Leclerc played briefly with the Detroit Red Wings in the 60s and 70s. He was better known as a fine two-way player in the WHA for seven years.

Born in Ville de Vanier, Quebec Leclerc was chosen 19th overall by Detroit in the 1964 Amateur Draft. During his last year as an amateur he score 31 goals for the Hamilton Red Wings of the OHA before joining the Fort Worth Wings in time for the CHL playoffs in 1968. In 1968-69 Leclerc was a solid worker in 43 games and was inserted on a line with Peter Mahovlich and Hank Montieth. He spent the next year in the minors then returned to the Wings and scored 8 goals in 1970-71 while playing with Montieth and Don Luce.

After a couple of years in the minors, Leclerc spent 3 1/2 seasons with the WHA's Quebec Nordiques. In January 1976 he was sent to the Indianapolis Racers for Bill Prentice and scored a career high 25 goals the next year. Midway through the 1978-79 season he signed with Quebec after the Racers folded. Leclerc played the last 23 games of the season for the Nords before retiring.
