Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Roger Kortko
Roger Kortko was a clever playmaking centre who played two seasons with the New York Islanders in the mid-1980s. He was a prolific point getter in junior and the minors but was unable to sustain his production in the big league.

The native of Hafford, Saskatchewan averaged more than two points per game for the Humboldt Broncos of the provincial junior league in 1980-81. He then joined the Saskatoon Blades scoring 84 points as a WHL rookie. After the 1981-82 season he was selected 126th overall by the New York Islanders. Kortko returned to junior for one more year where he accumulated 161 points.

Kortko began his pro career in 1983-84 with the Islanders' CHL affiliate in Indianapolis. He made his NHL debut the next year by playing 27 games and also averaged over a point per game for the Springfield Indians of the AHL. Kortko spent most of the 1985-86 season with the Islanders but returned to the AHL for the last three and a half years of his pro career.
