Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Kim Issel
Kim Issel was a big and talented right-winger who skated briefly with the Edmonton Oilers in the 1980s. He was considered a top prospect but had difficulty getting a chance to play in one of the NHL's deepest organizations. He eventually found success in the AHL and overseas where he played in five different domestic leagues.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Issel was a 6'4" tower of strength on the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders for four seasons. Unfortunately, he was injured in the 1985 post-season when the team won its first Memorial Cup. Following the 1986 season, Issel was the Edmonton Oilers' first round draft choice, 21st overall.

The Edmonton roster was full of talented forwards, a fact that relegated Issel to the status of useful farm hand. He also spent time in the Pittsburgh Penguins' farm system. Shortly after signing as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks, Issel opted to head for Europe. He spent three successful years with the VSV Villach club in Austria and later played in Italy, the United Kingdom, Slovenia, and Germany.
