Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Ed Hoekstra
Centre Ed Hoekstra played the 1967-68 season with the Philadelphia Flyers. In a career that lasted two decades, he was a fine scorer in junior and several minor pro leagues.

The Winnipeg native enjoyed four solid years of junior with the OHA's St. Catharines Teepees. In1957-58 he led the OHA with 58 assists then turned pro with the QHL's Trois Rivieres Lions the next season. The young pivot scored 19 goals for the Lions and was named the 1959 winner of the William Northey Trophy as the top rookie in the QHL. He bounced around the minors for a few years then spent parts of six years with the Quebec Aces.

Hoekstra's rights were transferred to the Flyers when they purchased the Aces as they prepared for their inaugural season in 1967-68. That first year he notched 15 goals and played solid defence on a line with Garry Peters and Don Blackburn. By the next season he was back in the minors with the WHL's Denver Spurs. Hoekstra remained a solid minor leaguer until he retired in 1974. Highlights of this period were winning the Calder Cup with the Springfield Kings in 1971 and leading the AHL with 69 assists in 74 games the next year.
