Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bob Hassard
Bob Hassard played his junior hockey in Toronto and was part of the OHA Marlboros' Allan Cup-winning team in 1949-50. That same season marked his NHL debut as well, as he appeared in one game for the Maple Leafs. A lesser-known fact is that Bob Hassard could have been playing professional baseball that year. At 18, he had turned down an offer from the Brooklyn Dodgers organization to play for their farm team; they had only offered him $100 a month and he figured he could make more playing hockey.

In 1950-51 he divided his time between the Leafs and the Marlboros, but 1951-52 he played exclusively for the Pittsburgh Hornets of the AHL, his 64 points helping them to a league championship. He spent all of the following season with the Leafs, but was once again dividing his time between Toronto and Pittsburgh during 1953-54. He was traded to Chicago for cash in August 1954 and played his last 17 games in the NHL as a Black Hawk. He played part of the 1954-55 season in Chicago and part in Pittsburgh. He spent one more year with the Hornets before moving around the minors, and retired from active play in 1960.
