Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mats Hallin
Although Mats Hallin was originally drafted by Washington in 1978, he never actually donned a Caps sweater. He continued to play in Sweden until signing as a free agent with the New York Islanders in June 1981.

Hallin spent the 1981-82 season with the Indianopolis Checkers of the CHL. The following season, he played part of the season with the Checkers but was invited to join the Isles for 30 regular season and seven playoff games. This gave Hallin the opportunity to be part of the history-making Islanders team that won the Stanley Cup for four consecutive years.

From 1983-1985, Hallin played on Long Island. He was traded in September 1985 to Minnesota for the North Stars sevemnth-round draft pick in 1986. The 1985-86 season saw Hallin split his time between the North Stars and the Springfield Indians of the AHL. He returned for six appearances with Minnesota the following year and then left the NHL for good to play in Sweden. He continued to play in his homeland until he retired in 1992.
