Defenceman Dave Goertz played a couple of games for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1987-88. A fine playmaker who could also play aggressively in his own zone, he spent most of his pro career in the AHL and IHL.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Goertz was taken 232nd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1983 after a fine career with the WCJHL's Regina Pats and Prince Albert Raiders. In 1985, he was an integral part of the Raiders' Memorial Cup championship and was placed on the tournament all-star team.
Goertz made his pro debut with the AHL's Baltimore Skipjacks in 1985-86 and remained there for two years before joining the IHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks. Apart from his two game stint with the Pens, he spent the last five years of his career in the "I" before retiring in 1991.
