Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Danny Geoffrion
Right winger Danny Geoffrion played parts of three NHL seasons in the 70s and 80s. He was a junior standout whose big league career fell far short of his famous father, Bernie Geoffrion.

The Montreal native starred as an amateur with the QMJHL's Cornwall Royals where he accumulated 190 goals in parts of five seasons. In 1976 he was chosen to the league's west division second all-star team after scoring 100 points in 53 contests. The talented youngster was chosen eighth overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 1978 but opted to join the WHA's Quebec Nordiques for a year. Geoffrion founded the checking a lot closer in the pros and only registered 12 goals in 77 games for the Nords.

Amid much fanfare, Geoffrion joined the Habs in 1979-80 with his father installed as the coach replacing Scotty Bowman. The team struggled at times and both Geoffrions were out of the picture before the end of the season. In October, 1980 the young forward was sent to the Winnipeg Jets for cash. Initially the change inspired Geoffrion as he counted 20 goals for his new club. The next season he was unable to make the Jets out of training camp and spent all but one game in the CHL with the Tulsa Oilers. He retired in 1983 after scoring 37 goals for the AHL's Sherbrooke Jets.
