Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Dave Gans
As a 16-year-old member of the Junior B Brantford Penguins in 1980-81, Dave Gans scored 46 goals and 91 points in just 36 games. Perhaps just as incredible was his willingness to play a tough game with players as much as three and four years older, as evidenced by his 146 minutes in penalties. He graduated to major junior hockey in 1981-82, playing with the Oshawa Generals. In his second season with the club, the team advanced to the Memorial Cup, eventually won by the WHL champion Portland Winter Hawks. Gans also played in three games for the NHL's Los Angeles Kings that year, after they had selected him with their fourth-round pick, 64th overall in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft.

Gans returned for his final year of junior eligibility in 1983-84 and he posted the best offensive numbers of his junior career, potting 56 goals and 132 points. Despite his strong individual output the Generals failed in their bid to advance to a second consecutive Memorial Cup.

In 1984-85 Gans turned professional with the IHL's Toledo Goaldiggers where he notched 51 goals and 105 points. The output earned him a three-game call-up from the Kings in 1985-86, but he was again kept off the scoresheet while seeing limited duty.

Gans played two more years of pro hockey in the minors, retiring after the 1987-88 season just shy of his 24th birthday.
