Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jon Fontas
Centre Jon Fontas played a couple of games with the Minnesota North Stars in the early 1980s. Although his NHL tenure was unremarkable, he was a proficient scorer in college, the minors, and Europe.

The native of Arlington, Massachusetts played three years at the University of New Hampshire where he scored 161 career points. Undrafted and unsigned, Fontas scored 36 goals for the IHL's Saginaw Gears in 1978-79 and was presented the McKenzie trophy as the best U.S.-born rookie in the league. In September 1979, he was signed as a free agent by the Minnesota North Stars but made it into just two big league contests.

After scoring 72 points in 63 games for the EHL's Baltimore Clippers in 1980-81. Fontas opted to try his luck in Finland. He averaged over a point per game for Jokerit Helsinski in 1981-82 then signed with the JoKP team in the second division. Fontas retired after playing the 1984-85 season with Saipa Lappeenranta.
