Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Wayne Dillon
Centre Wayne Dillon spent parts of four years in the NHL in the late 70s. He was better known as a top scorer in junior and the WHA.

Born in Toronto, Dillon spent two seasons with the OHA's Toronto Marlboros and notched 47 goals in 1972-73. Too young to play in the NHL, the gifted teenager joined the WHA's Toronto Toros in 1973-74. He played two years with the club and accumulated 160 points.

Dillon was chosen 12th overall by the New York Rangers in 1975 and opted to join the NHL for the upcoming season. He scored 21 goals as a rookie and played reasonably solid defence. He continued to play at the same level over the next two years but never took his game to the next level. Dillon fell out of favour in New York and returned to the WHA with the Birmingham Bulls in 1978-79. Prior to the 1979-80 season, the enigmatic pivot was acquired by the Winnipeg Jets as they prepared to merge with the NHL.

After battling injuries and only playing 13 games for the Jets, Dillon competed for Rapperswill of Switzerland in 1980-81. He retired the next year after playing 37 games for the AHL's Fredericton Express.
