A three-time 50 goal scorer as a Junior left winger Richard David was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens but scooped up the World Hockey Association's Quebec Nordiques as an underage free agent in 1978. David, born in Notre Dame de la Salette, Quebec on April 8th, 1958 made his pro debut during the final season of the WHA's existence then joined the NHL when the Nordiques were absorbed in 1979.
David played 10 scoreless games during the 1979-80 season then spent the entire 1980-81 campaign in the minors trying to find his game. During the 1981-82 season his scoring touch returned and David led the American Hockey League with 51 goals. He also resurfaced in the NHL that year playing 5 more games with Quebec and scoring his first points, a goal and an assist. In 1982-83 he enjoyed his longest stretch in the bigs playing 16 games and scoring 3 goals and 6 points.
