Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bob Crawford
Bob Crawford was a 4th-round selection of the St. Louis Blues, 65th overall, in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft, following a successful three-year major junior career with the Cornwall Royals of the QMJHL. In his rookie year with the Royals, Crawford averaged just under a point per game, picking up 69 points in 70 games. During the next two years, he surpassed the 50-goal plateau, scoring 54 goals and 62 goals, respectively. During his final year in junior he had 132 points, surpassing his total of 121 points the year before.

In his first professional season, Crawford played in eight games for the Blues, spending another 67 games with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles of the CHL where he had 51 points. He appeared in just 30 games with the Blues over the next two seasons before getting the opportunity to play full-time as a member of the Hartford Whalers in 1983-84. He responded with 36 goals and 61 points in 80 games.

Crawford, known for his tremendous skating speed, was dogged by injuries and inconsistency the following year, appearing in just 45 games for Hartford. Late in the 1985-86 season, the Whalers moved Crawford to the New York Rangers, but the change of scenery could not kick-start his career. He played in just 14 games over two years, scoring just once. He also played in 12 games for the Washington Capitals in 1986-87 but failed to make the scoresheet. He played one season of pro hockey in the British league before opting to retire.
