Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bob Cook
Bob "Cookie" Cook was born in Sudbury, Ontario on January 6th, 1948 joined the NHL under rather unique circumstances in 1970. Cook, who was not drafted by an NHL club, was playing professional hockey for the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. When the owners of the Rochester club were granted an NHL expansion team Cook's rights were transferred to Vancouver, one of two new clubs in the league that year. Cook played just two games for Vancouver and was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in 1971.

Cook didn't make his way into the Red Wings lineup until the 1972-73 season when he played 13 games and registered his first big league points scoring a 3 goals and 1 assist. That year he was part of a four-player trade that sent him to the New York Islanders, where he finished the season.

As an Islander Cook played 55 games over two seasons and scored 17 points, the most productive stage of his NHL career.

His last stop came in 1975 when the Isles traded him to the Minnesota. Cook played just two games for the North Stars and retired at season's end.
