Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Roland Cloutier
The Detroit Red Wings drafted center Roland Cloutier with the 178th overall draft pick in the 1977 Amateur Draft. Cloutier, born in Rouyn, Quebec on October 6th, 1957 made his NHL debut in his first professional season despite his late draft position.

During the 1977-78, which was spent primarily with the Kansas City Red Wings of the Central Hockey League, Cloutier got the call from Detroit and played a single game with them.

The next year Cloutier upped his games-played to 19 and was able to produce 12 points in that time. Despite his success, he was on the move for the 1979-80 season.

The NHL had merged with the World Hockey Association and the four new clubs would be able to stock their rosters via an Expansion Draft. Cloutier's home province Nordiques plucked him from the Red Wings and gave him 14 more games of experience in 1979-80. They would be his last games at the NHL level.

Cloutier spent the next season in the minors then headed to France in 1981-82. In France, Cloutier played seven years before retiring following the 1987-88 campaign. He was twice the league's top goal scorer and twice named the league's most gentlemanly player.
