Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Billy Carroll
After a decent junior career with London in the OHL, Carroll was drafted by the New York Islanders in 1979, a club on the verge of becoming the first expansion-team dynasty.

Carroll played one full year with the farm team in Indianapolis, and got a taste of NHL life in 1980-81, playing 19 games and 18 more in the playoffs to win a Stanley Cup in his first NHL season. He won Cups the next two years as well, but in 1983-84 played in only 39 regular season games (one less than required for name engraving) and one in the finals.

At this point, the Islanders gave up on him, but no matter--he was claimed by the next NHL dynasty, Edmonton Oilers, and promptly won a Cup with the Oil in 1985. But the following year Carroll was demoted and then traded to Detroit, playing parts of two seasons with the Wings before retiring in 1987.
