Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Rick Bragnalo
Bragnalo attended the University of Denver where he played four years. In his senior year he scored 24 goals and 46 points in just 29 games. In 1974-75, Bragnalo signed as a free agent with the Dayton Gems of the IHL. He played 75 games in his pro rookie campaign, scoring 41 goals and 113 points. That solid offensive output earned him the Leo Lamoureux Memorial Trophy as the IHL's leading scorer and also the Garry F. Longman Memorial Trophy as the league's top rookie. It seemed things could only go up for the 24-year-old Bragnalo. He began the 1975-76 season in strong fashion, scoring 63 points in the first 48 games in Dayton. The NHL's Washington Capitals, in dire need of additional scoring, signed Bragnalo to a contract on March 1, 1976. In 19 games he recorded a pair of goals and 12 points.

In 1976-77, Bragnalo played in his only complete NHL season, dressing for all 80 games with the Capitals, scoring eleven goals and 23 points. IT was a decent offensive performance, but it was apparent that Bragnalo was not going to alleviate the Caps' scoring woes. The following year his time was divided between Washington and Hershey of the AHL. In 1978-79, Bragnalo played in his final two NHL games.

Starting in 1980, Bragnalo embarked on a successful pro career in Italy, playing 12 years with SG Brunico and Milano Saimo until retiring at the age of 40 in 1992. In 145 NHL games, Bragnalo counted 15 goals and 50 points.
