Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Rick Boh
Centre Rick Boh was the type of hockey player that was not great at any one aspect of the game but was rather a decent player at all facets of the game. Because he was not flashy, a natural goal scorer or a big bruising player, Boh went unnoticed by NHL scouts while he played junior in Penticton. In fact Boh played in relative obscurity having never played major junior hockey. He went directly from Junior B to enrolling at Colorado College where he played for four years.

In 1987 he finished his playing days in the NCAA and had developed his all-round game to the point where he earned a roster spot with Canada's National Team for ten games that year. NHL scouts noticed his play and began to watch Boh more closely.

The Minnesota North Stars, a team known for its liking of U.S. college hockey graduates gave Boh and eight-game tryout in 1987-88 when injuries had taken their toll on the club. During his short stay in the NHL Boh had two goals and three points and left a generally strong impression on the organization, but was unable to uproot any of the regular roster players from their positions. Surprisingly no other NHL team took an interest in Boh and he was never afforded another opportunity at playing in the league.

In the fall of 1988 Boh accepted an invitation to play in Italy, where he remained for one season before playing the last three years of his career in Holland. During a game in 1992-93 he had his jaw broken in three places by a noted goon in the league, who was handed a multiple-game suspension despite some who felt the incident was accidental. Boh retired from hockey that year and returned to North America.
