Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mike Blaisdell
Right-winger Mike Blaisdell was a pure goal scorer who played nine NHL seasons in the 1980s. He was a decent scorer in the NHL but his most impressive numbers were put up in junior and overseas.

Blaisdell was an explosive scorer with the Regina Blues of the SJHL in 1977-78. His offensive production continued when he joined the WCJHL's Regina Pats and attended the University of Wisconsin for a few weeks. After scoring 71 goals in 63 games in 1979-80, the young sniper was selected 11th overall by the Detroit Red Wings at the Entry Draft.

Blaisdell split his first pro season between the Wings and Adirondack of the AHL. In 1981-82, Blaisdell scored 23 goals and formed a solid unit with Mark Kirton and Paul Woods. He dropped to 18 goals the next season and continued to struggle with the defensive side of the game along with most of his teammates. In June 1983, Blaisdell was part of major trade with the New York Rangers that included Willie Huber, Mark Osborne, Ron Duguay, Eddie Mio, and Eddie Johnstone.

Most of Blaisdell's time with the Rangers was spent in the minors before he was claimed on waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins in October 1985. He scored 15 goals and played some his best two-way hockey in 1985-86 but his playing time decreased the next year. Blaisdell was a part-time player for the Toronto Maple Leafs for two seasons then spent the 1989-90 schedule with the Canadian Ntional Team. Part-way through the 1990-91 season, he joined the Durham Wasps of the British League where he was a record-breaking scorer for several years. He coached the Nottingham Panthers in 1993-94 then played three years for the club before retiring in 1997.
