An American through-and-through, Auge spent four years at the University of Minnesota 1971-75 before commencing a career in the minors. He was never drafted, but the Colorado Rockies signed him as a free agent on July 15, 1979 after he had been in the minors for a few years already.
Auge played in the IHL and AHL and played for the U.S. at the 1979 World Championships in the Soviet Union, finishing seventh. He stayed with the National team the following year, hoping to make the Olympic squad for Lake Placid. He was cut, though, and missed being part of the Miracle on Ice team.
The Rockies called him up for six games in 1980-81 but he spent most of the next two years in the minors before retiring in 1982.
