Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Juha Ylonen
Juha Ylonen was drafted 91st overall in the 1991 Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets but didn't make his NHL debut until February 12, 1997. By that time, the Winnipeg franchise had been moved to Phoenix. In 1997-98, he played in 55 games and scored his first NHL goal on March 6, against Kirk McLean of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Ylonen is an international hockey veteran with appearances in the World Junior Hockey Championships, Olympics, World Cup, and World Hockey Championships to his credit. On March 23, 2001, he was named to the 2002 Finnish Olympic team for Salt Lake. His most memorable hockey moment was winning a gold medal with Team Finland at the 1995 World Championships.

He is a slightly built forward who is not an offensive threat but will score 20 points a year seeing duty as a defensive centre. Ylonen has good skills and hockey sense. He controls the puck and passes well and is an excellent penalty killer. He was acquired by the Tampa Bay Lightning for Todd Warriner on June 18, 2001.
