Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Xavier Delisle
Centre Xavier Delisle came to the Montreal Canadiens' training camp in 2001 hoping to build on his 14-game stint with the club the previous year. A top point producer in junior, the young pivot was a decent minor leaguer since turning pro in 1997-98.

The native of Quebec City excelled on the QAAA's Laval Regents then played four years in the QMJHL with the Granby Predateurs. He was taken 157th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1996 after leading his junior squad to the Memorial Cup. Delisle was named to the tournament all-star team and was also named a second team QMJHL all-star after scoring 120 points.

After he was drafted, Delisle returned to junior for one last season and recorded 92 points in 59 games though the team was eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs. He made his pro debut with the AHL's Adirondack Red Wings in 1997-98 and contributed 29 points while working on his overall game. Over the next two year he played mostly in the minors and received a two game recall by Tampa in 1998-99. Delisle lived out a childhood dream by signing with the Habs in August, 2000 then scoring five points in 14 regular season games. The rest of the year was spent with the Quebec Citadelles of the AHL but he hoped to gain another opportunity in Montreal.
