Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Andreas Dackell
Andreas Dackell was drafted 136th overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. He played 79 games as a rookie in 1996-97 and scored 31 points helping the Senators improve 36 points to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

Dackell played junior hockey in his hometown of Gavle and in 1990-91, he made his Elitserien debut as a teenager with Brynas Gavle. After playing another four Elitserien games the following season, he joined Brynas full-time in 1992-93 and scored 27 points in 40 games

Dackell still views winning a gold medal with Sweden at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer as the biggest achievement of his hockey career. The following year, he won a silver medal with Sweden at the 1995 World Championships and in February 1996, he helped Sweden's national team win the gold medal at the Sweden Games.

In 1997-98, Dackell played all 82 games for the Senators and improved to 15 goals and 33 points. In 1998-99, Dackell scored 15 goals and 50 points as the team improved 20 points to win the Northeast Division title. In 1999-2000, he played all 82 games and picked up 35 points. In 2000-01, Dackell helped the Senators to their second Northeast Division title in three years with a club record 48 wins and 109 points.

At the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Dackell was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for a seventh-round draft pick. Newly appointed General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Andre Savard was with the Senators with Dackell and like what he could bring to the table in Montreal.

Upon his arrival with Montreal, Dackell continued to be a reliable forward through the 2003-04 season.
