Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Daniel Shank
Right-winger Daniel Shank spent parts of three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings and Hartford Whalers in the early 90s. He was a gritty goal scorer in junior and the minors but he was unable to find a long term place for himself in the NHL.

The Montreal native starred in the QMJHL with three different clubs and accumulated 109 goals in four years. In May, 1989 he signed as a free agent with the Red Wings and scored 11 goals as an NHL rookie the next year. By the next season Detroit's depth had improved and they were poised to enter the league's elite. Shank was a regular with the AHL's Adirondack Red Wings then joined Hartford in a trade for Chris Tancill.

After a short 13-games stint with the Whalers in 1991-92, Shank spent the rest of the decade in the minors where he was a tough competitor and a reliable goal scorer. His best year was 1994-95 when he scored 44 goals for the IHL's Detroit Vipers.
