Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Everett Sanipass
When the Chicago Blackhawks drafted Everett Sanipass in the 1986 Entry Draft, he donned the sweater and rubbed his fingers over the crest adoringly. Growing up a Micmac on the Big Cove Reserve in New Brunswick, he was always a Blackhawks fan in large part due to the team's crest. He was Chicago's first round pick, 14th overall, from the Verdun Junior Canadiens of the QMJHL.

As the first Native Canadian to be drafted out of New Brunswick, everyone in his Band was extremely proud of him and encouraged Sanipass to become a great player. It was the World Junior Championship in 1987 where Sanipass and his fellow Canadians battled the Soviets when a bench-clearing brawl started, resulting in the disqualification of both teams and giving the gold medal to Finland. This was a rough time for Sanipass, but it resulted in a callup with the Blackhawks.

He spent two seasons in Chicago before being traded to the Quebec Nordiques in his third year. Sanipass shared time in 1990-91 with the Nordiques and the AHL's Halifax Citadels. He spent the next two seasons in Halifax before finishing his career in the NBSHL
