Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Robert Petrovicky
As an amateur in Slovakia, Robert Petrovicky was an offensively productive centreman whose style of play was well suited to international hockey. In 1991-92, he had his most productive season with Dukla Trencin, scoring 61 points in 46 games. He topped off his year with a productive outing at the World Junior Championships where he netted nine points in seven games.

He was drafted 9th overall by the Hartford Whalers in 1992. Later that same year, Petrovicky moved across the Atlantic to try his hand at North American style hockey. His transition, however, fell far short of expectations.

Over the decade that followed, he never played in one place for an entire season. His NHL stints were usually annual but brief in nature. In essence, he was unable to adapt his scoring touch to the NHL level. He was useful to teams in a pinch, but otherwise he was, for the most part, a minor-league insurance policy.

Petrovicky's NHL stops have included stints with the Whalers, Stars, Blues, Lighting, Islanders and his present club, the Flames. Between big-league stops, he has skated in the IHL and AHL for Chicago, Springfield, Detroit, Worcester and Michigan.
