Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jaroslav Otevrel
Jaroslav Otevrel was a 6'3" left-winger who skated briefly with the San Jose Sharks in the early 90s. Most of his success came in the minors or the Czech and Finnish domestic leagues.

Born in Gottwaldov, Czechoslovakia, Otevrel played two years with his hometown club before joining Dukla Trencin in 1989-90. After scoring 24 goals in 49 games for TJ Zlin in 1990-91, he was selected 133rd overall by the San Jose Sharks at the NHL Entry Draft. The youngster played one more year with Zlin before joining San Jose in 1992-93.

Otevrel only played 16 games over two seasons for the Sharks but was a solid performer in the IHL with the Kansas City Blades. In 1994 he left North America to begin a two year term with Assat Pori of Finland. Otevrel was enjoying an excellent year in 1995-96 when he suffered a serious neck injury during a game. The accident left him paralyzed below the waist.
