Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jeff Nelson
Centre Jeff Nelson was high scorer in junior and the minor leagues. He played briefly with the Washington Capitals in the mid 90s but had difficulty moving up the forward hierarchy on the talent-laden club.

The native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, scored 152 goals in four seasons with the local Raiders of the WHL. After scoring 120 points in 1990-91 he was chosen 36th overall by the Washington Capitals at the NHL Entry Draft. In 1992 he represented Canada at the 1992 World Junior Championships in Germany.

During his first pro season Nelson adjusted well with the AHL's Baltimore Skipjacks. In 1993-94 he scored 107 points for the Portland Pirates then added ten post-season goals when the team won the Calder Cup. The next year Nelson scored 33 goals for the Pirates then joined Washington for ten games after the Owners' Lockout. He split the 1995-96 season between the Caps and the Pirates but was unable to take hold of a permanent spot on the roster. Nelson next moved on to the IHL with the Grand Rapids Griffiths and Milwaukee Admirals.
