Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Pat Murray
Left winger Pat Murray progressed a long way from playing Junior D hockey with the Seaforth Centenaires at the age of 15 to making it to the NHL at 21.

Murray played two years of Junior B hockey with his hometown Stratford Cullitons before enrolling at Michigan State University in 1997-98, where he played on the school's hockey team for three years. After scoring 37 points in his freshman year, Murray was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round 35th overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. It's fair to say Murray was somewhat of a late bloomer, being eligible for the 1997 Entry Draft and still playing Junior B hockey. However, the consensus among many hockey experts was that he was continuing to improve steadily and that the Flyers had made a strong choice in taking him with their second-round pick.

Upon completing his three years with the Spartans, Murray turned pro in 1990-91 and was called up by the Flyers for 16 games that year where he contributed offensively with two goals and an assist. The balance of his season was spent with the Hershey Bears and in fact he remained there for two more years while being called back to the Flyers for nine more games in 1991-92.

After several more years in the minors, Murray suited up for three games with the Canadian National Team in 1994-95. In 1996 he was lured to Germany where he signed a lucrative two-year contract. He last played competitively in 1997-98 with Sonthofen in Germany.
