Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Shane Willis
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Willis played in Red Deer with the AAHA's Raiders and the Chiefs of the AMHL. The talented youngster then enjoyed a fine WHL career with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Lethbridge Broncos. He was originally chosen by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1995 but was unable to come to terms and re-entered the Draft. Willis was claimed 88th overall by the Hurricanes in 1997 then scored 58 goals during his last junior season.

Willis spent most of his first two pro seasons with New Haven of the AHL and hit the 30-goal mark twice while capturing AHL Rookie-of-the-Year honours in 1999. In 2000-01 he broke through with 20 goals and 44 points for Carolina as a rookie and was named the NHL All-Rookie Team. Midway through the 2001-02 season Willis was dealt to the Tampa Bay Lightning and over the next two seasons split his time with the Lightning and the team's AHL affiliate in Springfield (2002-03) and Hersey (2003-04).

The following season Willis would return to compete for the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. Willis would spend the entire season with the Falcons and ranked second on the team in goals (18) and points (34) while playing in 58 of the team's 80 regular season games. In 2005-06 the Edmonton, Alberta native played 32 games with HC Davos of Nationalliga A in Switzerland before finishing the regular season with Linkopings HC in the Swedish Elite League.

In July of 2006, the free agent winger was signed by the Carolina Hurricanes. He would spend his season with the club's AHL affiliate in Albany and register 43 points before signing as a free agent in the summer of 2007 with the Nashville Predators.
