Radovan Somik was born May 5, 1977 in Martin, Slovakia. The fourth round, 100th overall selection of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, Somik came to North America in 2002-03 after spending the early part of his playing career in Slovak Republic Extraleague (1993-99) and in the Czech Republic Extraleague (2000-2002).
A member of Slovakia's World Junior Team in 1996, Somik also represented his homeland at the 2001 and 2002 World Championships, collecting three assists in nine games while helping Slovakia win the 2002 title. In 2002-03 Somik made his NHL debut with the Flyers appearing in 60 games and registering 18 points (8-10-18).
In the summer of 2004, Somik represented his homeland at the World Cup of Hockey.
