Jason Wiemer was born April 14, 1976 in Kimberley, B.C. The eigth overall selction of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, Wiemer is a graduate of the WHL's Portland Pirates.

After the better part of four seasons in Portland, Wiemer made his NHL debut with the Lightning in 1994-95 after starting the season in the WHL. The hard-nosed centre played parts of four seasons in Tampa Bay before being acquired by the Calgary Flames in the latter stages of the 1997-98 season. After four seasons in the Flames organization, Wiemer was acquired by the Florida Panthers where he established a career high in points with 31 during the 2001-02 season.

Wiemer played only one season in South Florida before being dealt to the New York Islanders prior to the 2002-03 season, where he became one of the team's on ice leaders. After only one full season on the Island, Wiemer was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Wild in the early stages of the 2003-04 season, before making a return to Calgary in the summer of 2004.

Upon his return to Calgary, Wiemer suited up for a mere 33 games with the Flames before having his rights acquired by the New Jersey Devils at the 2006 NHL trading deadline.

On the international stage, Wiemer won a bronze medal with Canada's Under-18 junior team at the 1993 Pacific Cup.
