Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mike McNeill
Forward Mike McNeill of Wiona, Minnesota enrolled at the University of Notre Dame in September, 1984 and played for the school hockey team for four years. He led the Fighting Irish in points in each of his last three seasons, and in his senior year in 1987-88 notched 28 goals and 72 points, establishing himself as one of the top scorers in the NCAA.

It was thanks primarily to his strong senior season that led him to being selected 14th by the St. Louis Blues in the 1988 NHL Supplemental Draft. He spent two years in the minors but was unable to earn a spot with the Blues, and he was released. From there, McNeill signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. He was inserted into he Hawks' lineup for 23 games in 1990-91, scoring two goals and two assists. In March, 1991 he and Ryan McGill were dealt to the Quebec Nordiques for Paul Gillis and Dan Vincelette.

McNeill appeared in 40 games with the Nords over two seasons, scoring three goals and 12 points. He then spent the next six years in the IHL with the Milwaukee Admirals, before accepting a contract to play in Germany with the Revier Lions. He retired after the 1999-2000 season.
