Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Francis Lessard
Francis Lessard was born May 30, 1979 in Montreal, Quebec. The third round, 80th overall selection of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Lessard is a graduate of the QMJHL.

A hulking winger, Lessard played three seasons in the QMJHL, with stops in Val d'Or where he was named to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team in 1998 and Drummondville before making his professional debut in 99-2000. Although drafted by Carolina, Lessard would have his NHL rights dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers in the spring of 1999.

Upon his arrival with the Flyers organization, Lessard spent the better part of three season's with the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms before being acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers in the latter stages of the 2001-02 season. Having yet to get a taste of the NHL over the course of his first three professional seasons, Lessard went on to play a handful of games with the Thrashers, while seeing some action with the club's AHL affiliate in Chicago.

Lessard went on to split the 2002-03 season between Atlanta and Chicago, before earning a full time roster spot with the Thrashers in 2003-04.

The next several seasons were spent predominantly in the American Hockey League, where Lessard brought his rugged style of play to Chicago Wolves followed by the Hartford WolfPack and the San Antonio Rampage.

In the summer of 2010 he signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Ottawa Senators.
