Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jason MacDonald
Jason MacDonald was born April 1, 1974 in Charlottetown, P.E.I. The sixth round, 142nd overall selection of the Detroit Red Wings in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, MacDonald spent ten seasons toiling in the minors before finally making his NHL debut during the 2003-04 season.

A path that started in the OHL with the North Bay Centennials back in 1990-91, MacDonald played parts of two seasons in North Bay before being acquired by the Owen Sound Platers during the 1991-92 season. In his final two seasons in the OHL, MacDonald broke out offensively with 89 and 116 points respectively. A 50-goal scorer in his final with Owen Sound, MacDonald went on to play parts of four seasons with the Red Wings AHL affiliate in Adirondack with a brief stint in the ECHL with the Toledo Storm. Unable to earn a roster spot on a talented Red Wings club, MacDonald joined the AHL's Fredericton Canadiens in the early stages of the 1996-97 season, before splitting the following year with the Canadas National Team and the AHL's Saint John Flames.

In 1998-99, the Charlottetown, P.E.I. native suited up for the IHLs Manitoba Moose and went on to spend the next three seasons in the I. After two seasons in Manitoba, MacDonald became a member of the Orlando Solar Bears in 99-2000, before helping lead the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the 2001 Calder Cup Final. Although the team lost in six games to the Saint John Flames, MacDonald strong play kept him in Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton for another two seasons.

After ten seasons of toiling in the minors and riding the buses, MacDonald went on to make his NHL debut with the New York Rangers during the 2003-04 season and in the summer of 2005 was acquired by the Boston Bruins
