Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Chris Luongo
Defenceman Chris Luongo played parts of five seasons in the 1990s. He was solid in his own end and was able to contribute offensively on occasion.

The Detroit native was taken 92nd overall by the Detroit Red Wings after a solid year in the junior NAHL in 1984-85. He then accepted a scholarship to Michigan State where he enjoyed a solid four-year career. In 1987, he was named to the NCAA Championship all-tournament team and placed on the CCHA second all-star team two years later.

The young blueliner spent the majority of his first three pro seasons in the minors and recorded 25 assists for the AHL's Adirondack Red Wings in 1990-91. He was signed as a free agent by the Ottawa Senators in 1992 and played 76 games for the struggling first year outfit. During the off-season, he was traded to the New York Islanders for Jeff Finley. After toiling mostly in the minors in 1993-94, Luongo played 121 games over two seasons for the Isles and played for the U.S. at the 1996 World Championships.

Luongo scored 45 points for the IHL's Milwaukee Admirals in 1996-97 before playing three years in Germany for EV Landshut and the Munich Barons. He also played for the United States at the 1997 and 2000 World Championships.
