Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- John Lilley
Right-winger John Lilley spent parts of three seasons with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 90s. He enjoyed a multi-faceted career, which saw him play hockey in college, internationally for the US as well as in the minors and Europe.

Born in Wakefield, Massachusetts, Lilley was chosen 140th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 1990 after a strong year at Cushing Academy. He returned for one more year there before spending two seasons at Boston University. The young forward also helped the US win the bronze medal at the 1992 World Junior Championships.

After starting the 1992-93 season in college, Lilley opted to join the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL where he scored 22 goals in 45 games. The next year he committed to the US national team and providing scoring and grit on the squad though it disappointed with an eighth place finish at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics.

Following the Olympics, Lilley hooked up with the Ducks as a free agent and dressed for the last 13 games of their inaugural season. Before the end of the season he was in the national colours once again when the US finished fourth at the World Championships. Apart from the occasional recall, Lilley spent most of the next three years in the minors before signing with Germany's Dusseldorfer EG for the 1997-98 season. He spent four years in the Bundesliga before returning to North America with the WCHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs in 2000-01.
