Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jan Hrdina
Born in Hradec Kralove, Czechoslovakia, Hrdina played with the junior and senior squads of the Stadion club before coming to North America. He was chosen 128th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1995 after he notched 41 goals as a rookie with the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds. Hrdina returned for one more amateur season and recorded 73 points for the Seattle Thunderbirds and the Spokane Chiefs.

After spending two years developing in the IHL and AHL, Hrdina made the Pittsburgh roster in 1998. He recorded 42 points as a rookie and notched four goals in the post-season when the Penguins reached the second round of the playoffs. Over the next two years he continued to produce over 40 points and register a strong plus/minus rating. In 2001, Hrdina was a top two-way performer when the Pens reached the Eastern Conference final.

Hrdina went on to play two more seasons with the Penguins before he was dealt to the Phoenix Coyotes at the 2003 trading deadline. After a mere 55 games with the Coyotes, Hrdina was dealt to the New Jersey Devils where he would play 13 regular season games before being acquired by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the summer of 2005 following a lock out season in 2004-05.

On the international stage, Hrdina has represented his homeland at the 1995 World Junior Championships, the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 2002 World Championships.
