Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Alexei Kudashov
Alexei Kudashov was a slick playmaking centre who played 25 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1993-94. He was a fine skater and skillful puck handler but he often held on to the puck too long as he tried to read the flow of play on the ice.

Born in Elektrostal, USSR, Kudashov played seven years with the Soviet Wings and participated in the 1990 and 1991 Friendship Tours. In 1990 he was a member of the Soviet team that won the silver medal at the World Junior Championships.

The skilled pivot was chosen 102nd overall by Toronto in 1991 but did not come to North America for another two years. Although he demonstrated glimpses of his natural talent in his 25-game look-see, it was obvious that he was not ready for the NHL. Kudashov played most of the next season-and-a-half in the AHL with St. John's. In September 1995 he signed as a free agent with the Florida Panthers and joined AHL farm club in Carolina. Late in the 1995-96 season he went to Germany and played for Dusseldorfer EG.

In 1997-98 Kudashov competed for TPS Turku in the Finnish and European Leagues. He also played for Russia when it finished fifth at the 1998 World Championships. The veteran pivot joined AK Bars Kazan of Russia in 1998-99 then scored 24 points in 37 games for Dynamo Moscow the next year. Kudashov also played for Russia at the 1999 and 2000 World Championships.
