Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Steve Webb
Right-winger Steve Webb was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft and spent his first season as a professional down in the Colonial League with the Muskegon Fury in 1995-96. A graduate of the OHL's Windsor Spitfires and Peterborough Petes, Webb quickly earned a reputation as a rough and rugged customer with willingness to play the physical game. His tough style of play drew attention from the New York Islanders who signed him as a free agent just prior to the 1996-97 season.

Webb played 41 games with the Islanders that year and managed to score a goal and four assists while accumulating 144 penalty minutes. Webb spent the next two seasons splitting his time between the Islanders line up and their AHL affiliate. In 1999 Webb made the Islanders roster out of training camp and became a full time NHLer for good. The tough winger became a regular on New York's checking line and was able to establish himself so that when the lowly Islanders improved their club dramatically in the summer of 2001 with some big trades Webb still had a role.

While playing a physical game, Webb has encountered in fair share of injuries which limited him to a mere 49 games in 2002-03. After seven seasons in the Islanders organization, Webb was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the early stages of the 2003-04 season. Upon his arrival in Pittsburgh the former Windsor Spitfire saw limited action with the parent club, spending the majority of the season in the AHL with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before being dealt back to the Islanders just prior to the 2004 trade deadline.
